"iKamper roof top tents are my little tree house dreams come true. Anyone who has read Mary Osborne's Magic Tree House series dreams of having his/her own tree house that takes him/her to a mysterious land. I also have dreamed of having my own tree house. The idea of having my own private room that takes me to all mysterious lands and unrevealed places fascinates me even now. iKamper roof top tents make dreams come true. With your little tree house on top of your car, you can go anywhere - strange lands and unknown places. Every day is so busy and repetitive that I sometimes want to step away from my life to rest and take a breath. With iKamper roof top tents, our campers take a journey back to their childhood."
Soon Park
iKamper founder

Jack Kerouac’s On The Road deeply inspired Soon Park, the founder of iKamper. Just like Kerouac, Park loves journeys. In 2009, Park went on a road trip from Boston to Los Angeles and back with his cheap trailer. iKamper roof top tents are based on this road trip around North America. Since his 2009 road trip, Park’s fascination about outdoor camping has continued. This led him to innovate iKamper’s roof top tents- Hardtop One, Hardtop One Jr., Road Trip, and now Skycamp. He first started working on the Hardtop one in August 2012. After more than 20 prototypes, he produced his final one and conducted various tests in March 2014. Park’s first roof top tent hit the market in June 2014. Park’s goal is make iKamper into a global brand. iKamper is attending various outdoor shows in Europe, North America, and Australia to expand the business worldwide.

“Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.” - Jack Kerouac, On The Road
In 1947, 25 year-old Jack Kerouac and his friends William Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Allen Ginsberg traveled around North America and Mexico by foot. Kerouac was poor, but poverty did not prevent him from embracing and loving people and nature. In 1957, Jack Kerouac published a novel titled On The Road. In his novel, Kerouac speaks against the injustice and irrationalitiy of society. Many people of the younger generation are encouraged and inspired by Kerouac’s novel. Strongly supported by the young people of America, Jack Kerouac became the hallmark of the beat generation.
*Beat Generation: what many young American people were referred to in 1950’s. The beat generation spoke against the injustice and irrationality of society at the time. These people turned away from the extravagance and wastefulness of society. Instead, they admired and embraced the people and nature altogether. Through rags, bushy hair, spoken language, broken rules, the beat generation mocked and refused the injustice of the time in America.
As Kerouac's novel On The Road demonstrates, iKamper changes the focus of people's lives from meaningless patterns to the true value of passion, love, and compassion. iKamper rooftop tents bring people one step closer to nature. iKamper embraces the lessons Kerouac tries to teach through his novel and makes them a reality by manufacturing the highest quality roof top tents.

Jack mostly walked or hitch hiked during his travels, but for many people there are barriers to travelling by foot. In my case, my age and the responsibility I carry for my family held me back from traveling in Jack Kerouac’s way. Thus, I purchased a $2,500 pop-up trailer for the first time in my life. My trip was somewhat different from Jack’s. However, the excitement, passion, and fear that I got after reading Kerouac’s On The Road burned inside me as I set off on my road trip around the USA with my family.
With our shabby trailer, we drove 58,000 miles around North America. The trip was not always filled with wonder and excitement: we had to change flat tires three times on a road where cars passed by only every hour or so. However, we witnessed the kind smiles coming from the poorest people in the richest country, and we danced under the pouring light of galaxies in the desert. Imagination became reality, freedom was understood, and mutual understanding between humans and nature all gathered in a single place during our trip.
I wanted people to feel the same way I did during my journey. It is a feeling that people can never forget but struggle to experience again in their lifetime. Whenever I think back to my journey and the feelings I experienced- the freedom from every constraint and the bare meaning of the life- I am still overcome with emotion. Thus, in the fall of 2012, we brought that trip to iKamper because we wanted people to experience their own personal journey. iKamper presented the RoadTrip, Hardtop One, and Hardtop One Jr. to the world. With these innovative and high quality roof top tents, campers are guaranteed to experience camping in the best and most comfortable way.
