Mounting Instructions

IMPORTANT: You agree and acknowledge that is your sole responsibility to determine whether your vehicle or trailer is suitable and safe for use and installation of the Skycamp.

Your roof rack and cross bars MUST have a dynamic weight load of at least 165lbs/75kg, your cross bars MUST be at least 30”/76cm apart, and your vehicle MUST have load limit over 165lbs/kg. Please consult your vehicle's manufacturer regarding the load limit, and please note that we do NOT recommend mounting the Skycamp on compact cars). Not following these instructions could not only damage your vehicle but could also cause serious injury.

Ladder

Skycamp's ladder comes in 3 sizes: standard (83”/211cm), long (94”/239cm), and extra long (105”/268cm). These heights are the maximum distance from the ground to the top of your roof rack/cross bars.

The ladder acts as the support for the extension floor, so special care should be taken to put the ladder at the correct angle (ideally 70 degrees).

Fabric

Poly 210D

  • PU 3,000mm Waterproof Coating
  • Flame Resistant
  • Sealed seams
  • Lightweight

The Poly 210D material is quick to dry out and requires little maintenance. It is more resistant to rips and mildew, but it does have some downsides as well. Poly 210D is not a good insulator compared to cotton, so it can get hotter when it is warm, and chilly when it gets cold. Poly 210D is not naturally breathable, so condensation may build up inside of the tent.
Poly-Cotton
  • 30gsm Super Density Poly Cotton Canvas
  • Water Resistant
  • Breathable
  • Insulating
  • Long Lasting
Poly-Cotton is breathable (less chance of condensation) and insulates very well. You won’t get as hot on a warm day, nor as cold when it is chilly. It is heavier than the Poly 210D, but due to its weight and insulation properties it is quieter if there’s a breeze. This fabric can also last longer and is more resistant to harmful UV rays. Poly-Cotton canvas is waterproof, but care should be taken to dry out the material before closing the Skycamp to avoid mildew.

Understanding Flame Retardants
The Poly-Cotton canvas tent comes in two different versions: one is fire retardant (FR) treated, and the other is not (FR Free).

Flame retardants (FR) are applied to many types of materials (children’s pajamas, furniture, curtains, tents) to prevent or slow the spread of fire. These treatments are very common in tent fabrics to meet regulatory flammability requirements. iKamper’s Poly 210D materials (tent, awning, annex) and FR Poly-Cotton canvas tents have flame retardants applied on them and comply with industry flammability standards, such as the CPAI-84 standard used in 7 states in the US (CA, LA, MA, MI, MN, NJ, or NY) and Canada.

Revisiting Our Understanding of Flame Retardants

The current tent flammability standard for several states in the US and Canada, CPAI-84, was created in 1976 to limit the risk of fire in canvas tents coated in wax. Although flame retardants offer the potential benefit of fire reduction, tent fabrics have greatly evolved, and research suggests that some of these chemicals may be harmful to people and the environment. As such, iKamper has decided to offer an FR-Free Poly-Cotton canvas version.

  • Poly-Cotton Canvas, untreated with flame retardant chemicals
This fabric does NOT adhere to the Flame Retardant standard CPAI-84 and as such, these tents cannot be shipped to 7 states in the United States (CA, LA, MA, MI, MN, NJ, or NY) or to Canada. As this canvas is untreated, it limits your exposure to chemicals and allows the material to be more breathable.
  • Poly-Cotton Canvas, treated with flame retardant chemicals
This version adheres to the Flame Retardant standard CPAI-84 and can be shipped globally.
